I have a lot of beautiful memories about Donna Summer because she always brought joy and love into my life through her music and person. But my best and most beautiful memory is from the first and only time I get to see her performing live.
It was November 12, 2009 in São Paulo/Brasil, where I’m from. I can’t remember being excited like I was that day in any other day of my life. It was like Christmas morning for a five year old kid, lol.
So there was I, waiting for the curtains to be opened as the band starts playing the introduction: Beethoven’s 5th symphony followed by “The Queen is Back”. What-a-thrill!! Then, one of the screens starts to go up revealing a piece of a sparkling dress and then as it finishes to rise, that incomparable face appears and that smile. Yes, that was her! She was real! And so was her voice! The most wonderful voice that ever graced the Earth was resonating right in front of me!
The concert itself was unforgettable, she was beautiful and funny, talking to the audience, making the show unique as she used to do. But there was a little moment that was more than special for me. While singing “Dim All The Lights”, Donna pointed to me like saying “I see you, girl” and danced a few steps trying to imitate mine. She danced with me! I can’t describe with words what I felt in those 3 or 4 seconds, but I certainly will never forget it! It was a Magical Mystical Night!
May you be in peace, My Dear Fairy Godmother.
Today, like in every 05/17, I send you white roses…
I love you!
Júlia
I was there with you dear Julia.
So many memories and feelings in my heart. She is part of my life, like a sister, like a best friend… Is too hard to live without Donna …
I’m so glad you were there, sweet Emer! You are also one of my best memories of that night!
Love you!
